SIGNATURE SUMMER EVENTS
Summer in the Golden Isles is the stuff of dreams - from the shining sun to the sandy beaches, to the coastal breezes that waft by. But what really sets this season apart are the signature summer events that take center stage. Whether you're looking for annual festivities, weekly live music, or a new festival to discover, the Golden Isles has it all this summer!
May kicks off with a bang, thanks to the annual Mayfair festival in Brunswick. Held every Mother's Day weekend, this two-day extravaganza features a parade of gorgeously decorated shrimp boats, all in celebration of the local shrimping fleet's time-honored tradition of blessing the waters prior to the season. Meanwhile, all throughout the Golden Isles, a variety of local arts and culture organizations are hosting their annual summertime concert series. From the Coastal Georgia Historical Society's "A Little Light Music" on the lighthouse lawn, to the Brunswick Music District's free weekly concert series held in each of the Signature Squares along Newcastle Street, to Golden Isles Arts & Humanities' "Sounds by the Sea" at Neptune Park near the St. Simons Pier, there's no shortage of live music to enjoy all summer long.
Speaking of Neptune Park, don't miss the Outdoor Concerts held there throughout the summer, courtesy of Golden Isles Arts & Humanities. And over on Jekyll Island, you can beat the heat with monthly swim-in movies at Summer Waves - grab an inner tube and enjoy family-friendly films in the wave pool!
July brings even more summertime fun, with Brunswick's Old Fashioned Fourth of July Celebration, complete with games, contests, and a fireworks show over the East River and Oglethorpe Bay. And on St. Simons Island, the 4th of July Sunshine Festival offers a multi-day family-friendly event with an arts and crafts show, 5K race, and of course, fireworks. Meanwhile, Jekyll Island's Independence Day Celebration invites everyone to join in on the fun with an old-fashioned patriotic parade through the Historic District, followed by games, water slides, bounce houses, and more!
Of course, there's even more to explore in the Golden Isles, with art festivals, live music, First Friday events, and more filling up the calendar all season long. So be sure to check out the full events calendar and find the perfect way to spend your summer vacation!
